About Us
Our Mission
We focus on providing hope to people experiencing drug addiction through rehabilitation, educational development and societal stability.
Our Background
Koimene Impact Foundation focuses on providing help and hope to people facing addiction through various substance abuse rehabilitation services. Koimene Impact Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Leemue Koimene and Karina Dean-Koimene in 2018. During his stay in Liberia in December 2017, Leemue’s cell phone was stolen by a Zogo (name referred to drug addicts in Liberia) but with the help of a local Zogo leader, the phone was recovered. The process of finding the phone took several hours of driving through ghettoes, slumps, graveyards and many deserted areas. The sight of a young mother smoking Heroin while breastfeeding her newborn and many youths lying on corners from drug overdose was devastating.
Following this event, Leemue developed a relationship with many of the local Zogos, which inspired him to help them. Since the inception of the Liberian Civil War, there has been a disintegration of families, communities, the displacement of populations and destruction of educational and health services. Throughout the war, many children became soldiers with rebel groups simply to survive. The impact of their childhood experiences, mixed with lack of opportunities, has led to an increase of drug addition.
